I’ve been an engineer for 38 years building our infrastructure and solving industry problems.
In 2020, after shepherding a major project through COVID, I stepped back and took a hard look at the issues that America was facing. That became the book “Fixing America – An Engineer’s Solution to our Social Cultural, and Political Problems”. Writing the book opened my eyes to how both political parties have not solved our problems but tied us up in culture wars.
The only way to fix America is to stop electing politicians who embrace extreme views, who launch verbal attacks without a shred of evidence, and who won’t have the discussions that we need. A better future for our children and grandchildren will only be secured by leaders acting in the best interest of the country with moderation, wisdom, and tolerance.
At the end of "Fixing America" I pointed out that we have lost the moderates in Congress. It’s time to elect Independent Moderates to Congress to solve our problems.
National Debt well be over $40 Trillion Dollars by the time we vote in November. That is driving up the interest rate on Treasury Bonds, which drives up mortgages and hurts affordability. Balance the Budget - Cut where you can but also raise taxes on the top 1% and large corporations.
Energy policy cannot be politicized. The Republican efforts to block wind farms and solar run contrary to the Oil/Gas CEOs, indicating that domestic oil production is plateauing. The Democrats efforts to give away tax credits run contrary to the massive national debt that they and the Republicans created. We need an all of the above approach that has a long term view.
US spends more than other countries and has worse outcomes. Health Insurance companies charge 20% overhead when Medicare and other countries are less than 5%. Private Equity is buying up providers and hospitals reducing competition. Implement the public option to provide a limited insurance that leverages Medicare negotiated pricing as a competition to private insurance.
In the 1950’s there were 8 workers to every retiree, today there are fewer than 3 workers. Social Security Trust Fund will run out in less than ten years. The Social Security Trustees have proposed solutions- it’s time to act.
